Nearly 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland were left experiencing outages on Monday morning after intense storm systems swept through the area, bringing strong winds topping over 100 km/h.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Impact

Residents witnessed substantial frozen pellets measuring up to 7cm in some areas. Weather authorities announced that multiple regions across the state had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency response teams handled 598 requests for assistance across the state, mostly for building damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

• Wyndham area - nearly 180 calls for assistance

At the height on the previous day, over 28k energy customers in Victoria were lacking electricity.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along large portions of eastern Queensland this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coast.

The following day was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent severe weather risk anticipated across multiple regions of both areas.

Health Warning

Medical authorities cautioned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This warning comes after past events where similar conditions led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
