19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts
A revitalized the Russian player secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.
The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from that period of 2023.
The win also signifies he has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is really nice," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.
The player's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.
But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an improved serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the last five points to go ahead.
The competitors swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial tour championship, took control to create a decider.
The opponent rescued 4 initial opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
